Run Regina has joined forces with the Provincial Capital Commission and races across the province for a FREE Canada Day run, walk, or roll.

The Covid-19 pandemic has hit the race industry hard, causing more than 15,000 runners and walkers who would have participated in a 2020 race in Saskatchewan to miss out on their races. Not only have these participants been impacted but also our communities will not see the economic impact to our local economies that our races bring each year. We estimate that this impact is between $3-$4 million dollars in 2020 and will have lasting effects in the years to come.

To encourage Saskatchewan runners to keep moving and stay active during the pandemic the Provincial Capital Commission has offered to host a province-wide virtual event as part of their Canada Day activities this year. The goal of this event is to get everyone in Saskatchewan, including those who do not consider themselves runners (though we all know how to run), to move on Canada Day. Personally, Run Regina hoping we can get at least 500 people to register and commit to moving on July 1st. A second goal for the event is to remind everyone in Saskatchewan about our local running events and to show solidarity for each other and our industry.

How the event will work.

  • A Race Roster registration page has been set up for people to register for the Canada Day event. There is no cost for the event, but we would like to show how many people participated, as well as how many kilometers they moved. - https://raceroster.com/events/2020/32259/canada-day-virtual-runwalkroll

  • Participants will be asked to pledge the number of kilometers they will move on Canada Day. There is no designated or required distance to be completed. We just want people to be active.

  • Using the #skmovesoncanadaday hastag, we encourage participants to share their day on social media. We would also encourage you to use the hashtag of your local event as well.

What can you do to help now?

  • The Race Roster registration page is officially open and we ask that you share a link on your social channels to encourage registration. The link is https://raceroster.com/events/2020/32259/canada-day-virtual-runwalkroll

  • In the days leading up to Canada Day, please continue to share the link and promote registration.

  • On Canada Day, go out for a run, walk, or roll as part of the event yourself.

  • On Canada Da,y share your own pictures to help demonstrate the impact the event has on our communities and use the hashtag #skmovesoncanadaday.
