Regina, Saskatchewan, May 13th.
Run Regina, organizers of the Saskatchewan's largest running festival, the GMS Queen City Marathon, today announced that the event will go virtual for 2020.
"We are disappointed that we will not be able to host an in-person event in September this year," said Shawn Weimer, Executive Director of Run Regina. "However, we are excited about the chance to do something special to keep our runners and walkers active and moving."
While fill details for the virtual event will be announced shortly, the nearly 3,000 people who have already registered to take part in the popular race weekend will still be able to receive their GMS Queen City Marathon race kit, and earn their finisher's medal and T-shirt by completing their run or walk anytime during the month of September.
For those looking to join in the fun this fall, registration for the virtual version of the GMS Queen City Marathon is currently open.
"The ongoing COVID-19 situation has forced us to reinvent our event this year," said Weimer. "We know people have been training all year to run or walk the GMS Queen City Marathon and that, for many people and families, it is an annnual tradition. This virtual format allows us to still provide an opportunity for our participants to accomplish their goals and celebrate their achievements."
Virtual races are an excellent opportunity for runners and walkers to stay active and healthy while participating in a little competition with their family and friends. Participating in this year's virtual GMS Queen City Marathon is also an opportunity to support many local charity partners, community organizations, and Run Regina itself, Regina's largest local running organization.
